What is a Student Visa in Canada?

A Student Visa in Canada allows an international student (such as yourself) to study at a Canadian university or college. A Student Visa is valid throughout the duration of the course/program – plus additional 90 days. All international students are required to apply for a Student Visa, you won’t however require one if,

  • You are a family or a staff member of a foreign representative in Canada accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development Canada.

  • You apply for a study program that lasts 6 months or less.

  • You are a member of foreign armed forces from the Visiting Forces Act.

  • You are a citizen of another country, but you have your Indian status registered in Canada.

  • You are a refugee or refugee claimant.

  • Your parents are refugees or refugee claimants.

Is there an age limit to applying for a Student Visa in Canada?

No.

There is no age limit to applying for a Canadian Student Visa.

As long as you aren’t a threat to Canada, you should be fine.

Although maximum points are awarded in the CRS score calculator, to international students between the ages of 18 and 35 – you can always make up for the loss by scoring additional points on other factors such as previous academic and employment experience.

Being above the ideal age bracket doesn’t mean you can immigrate to Canada and study. Your documents must be convincing that you are actually going to do the course/program you are enrolling in, and on completion of your program, you will go back to your country. Here’s a complete list of the documents you would need.

How to study in Canada without IELTS?

If you are an international student from an English-speaking country, you may be exempted from IELTS exam scores. Submit proof that you have studied in an English Medium school for at least 4 years is also an alternative.

Moreover, international students can submit scores from other English language exams such as the Duolingo English Test, TOEFL, and PTE or opt for English language courses offered by the university (if provided).

Some of the best universities that allow you to study in Canada without IELTS include Brock University, Carleton University, Memorial University, University of Regina, and Cambrian University.
