How many points are required in the AINP score calculator?

Before we step into the minimum points required in the AINP score calculator question, let us first understand how Alberta’ Provincial Nominee Program works.

What is the Alberta PNP?

The province of Alberta manages the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), formerly known as Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). Under this program, aspiring immigrants with the required mix of skills and work experience in the province – are eligible for a provincial nomination from Alberta.

If you wish to immigrate to Alberta, you have eight pathways to choose from - divided into two broad categories:

  1. Streams for Workers

  • Alberta Opportunity stream.

  • Alberta General Express Entry stream.

  • Alberta Accelerated Tech pathway.

  • Rural Renewal stream.

  1. Streams for Entrepreneurs

  • Farm stream.

  • Graduate Entrepreneur stream.

  • Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur stream.

  • Rural Entrepreneur stream.

Alberta’s Express Entry Stream: Eligibility

Alberta’s Express Entry stream is designed for candidates that already have a profile in the Federal Express Entry pool. If you have demonstrated ties to Alberta and have the necessary skills and experience to support and sustain Alberta’s economy – then you may be eligible to apply under the Alberta General Express Entry stream.

If you manage to secure a provincial nomination under the AINP, you will automatically be awarded 600 points to your final CRS score. This usually guarantees that you will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

Eligibility factors:

  • You need to have an active Express Entry profile in the pool.

  • You must show the intent to immigrate to Alberta.

  • You must be working in an occupation in demand in Canada.

  • You must have a minimum CRS score of 300.

How are the points distributed in the AINP score calculator?

The AINP score calculator will assess your immigration profile based on six selection factors:

  • Age – Maximum points 12

  • Education – Maximum points 25

  • Language Proficiency - Maximum points 28

  • Work Experience - Maximum points 15

  • Arranged Employment - Maximum points 10

  • Adaptability - Maximum points 10

In order to be eligible to apply under AINP, you will need to meet the minimum threshold of 67 points out of 100 in the AINP score calculator.

If you have one or more of the following Adaptability factors, you can expect prioritized processing of your visa application.

  • Have a valid job offer from an employer in Alberta.

  • Be a graduate of a post-secondary institution in Alberta – with a valid job offer.

  • Have a parent, child, or sibling living in Alberta as a permanent resident or Canadian citizen.

Apart from the adaptability factors mentioned above, you can immigrate to Alberta with your spouse to increase your points in the AINP score calculator. You can apply for spousal sponsorship and push your final score by a maximum of 40 points.

If you have met the mandated prerequisites like learning how many bands required for Canada visa under AINP and achieving a high score, biometrics, ECA report, etc. – you will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a Canada PR.

You will need to submit the supporting documents for the information and claims made by you on your AINP application. Once the IRCC authenticates the details provided by you – you will be sent a Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR).

Alberta Express Entry Processing Time

Applications under the Alberta Express Entry are usually processed between 3 and 4 months. It may, however, take longer – depending on the nature of your case. If the provincial government or the IRCC finds your case complicated, you may be asked to submit additional proof of the same. The best way to ensure that your Alberta Express Entry application is processed as quickly as possible is to make sure that it is done carefully the first time.
